Palliser

Ridge.

We source our wool directly from Palliser Ridge, a certified regenerative 1500ha sheep and beef station located in the steep hill country of South Wairarapa. They have the honour of being New Zealand's first Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified farm. Treating their livestock with respect, compassion, and dignity, the result is a happy farm for both people and animals.

The farm.

Owned by Jim and Marilyn Law, the daily operations of the station are overseen by manager Kurt Portas and his dedicated team. We maintain a close collaboration with Lisa Portas, the farm's expansion manager and Kurt's wife. Palliser Ridge, utilizing Wairere Romneys—a resilient breed well-suited to the challenging terrain of the Wairarapa—shears 6,000 ewes twice a year and 9,000 lambs annually, resulting in an annual wool production of around 40,000kgs.

We take pride in ensuring fair pay for wool growers, supporting their initiatives in soil regeneration and prioritizing the welfare of their sheep. Our commitment is reflected in the direct purchase of clean wool from Palliser Ridge at over double the conventional wool commodity market price.

Fair prices.

Certified regenerative.

Over the past two decades, Palliser Ridge has embraced a regenerative farming approach. In 2021, the farm received verification as regenerative through the Savory Institute's "Land to Market" program. This initiative enables them to measure, analyze, and provide tools for continuous improvement, scientifically demonstrating their positive impact on the local ecosystem.
