Product

lifecycle.

We operate with a local, circular approach, that considers the entire product lifecycle. Our textile products are proudly made in New Zealand, using locally grown and processed wool as part of a scalable, restorative agricultural system. Through networking with local farmers and makers, we identified abundant raw materials and skillsets to support a new regional textile economy. This vision aligns with the concept of a "fibershed", promoting fair economic practices and soil enhancement. Our goal is to establish a viable textile supply chain that sets a new standard for addressing the environmental crisis.

The wool grows.

Wool grows all year round on the land at Palliser Ridge sheep station, Wairarapa, New Zealand.

Design.

Slow design and prototyping on Waiheke Island, Auckland, New Zealand at Studio Lof.

Shearing.

Wool is shorn every February and August.

Scouring.

Wool is sent to Napier, New Zealand for scouring (washing the greasy lanolin off).

Spinning.

Wool travels to Wellington, New Zealand for carding (alignment of the fibres) and spinning (turning the wool slivers into yarn).

Manufacture.

Yarn is processed into textiles locally in Auckland, utilising specialised knitting technology.

Assembly.

Products are assembled into their final form by a team of local Mum’s on Waiheke Island, New Zealand and sent worldwide.

First life.

The product lives its long life. It is used and reused.

Upcycled/ repurposed.

At the end of its first life, the product can be sent back to Lof to be repaired, upcycled, or repurposed.

End of life.

Once the complete life force has been exhausted, the fibre composts into soil, returning the nutrients to the ground. Naturally dyed and naturally coloured products can compost in the food garden safely; the rest can be composted in the garden.
