Lof is a Waiheke Island design studio exploring light, material, and form through New Zealand wool. From farm to finished piece, we create lighting that softens sound, honours natural materials, and reflects a deep connection to Aotearoa.

Introducing the HIWA and BLOEM collections —
Our two new lighting families explore how far wool can be pushed as a regenerative, local design material. Working with New Zealand strong wool, the lighting investigate the natural structural qualities of knitted wool as a study in lightness and dynamic form. HIWA, named after Hiwa-i-te-rangi, the Matariki star associated with aspiration and new beginnings, explores a faceted, celestial geometry shaped by the natural elasticity of wool. BLOEM, from the Dutch word for “flower,” introduces a more open knitted form that brings softness, movement, and spatial openness.

From Sophie, Founder of Lof

I started Lof to bring value back to New Zealand wool through a design-led approach. Each light is designed in our Waiheke Island studio and assembled by hand by our team, using regenerative, farm-sourced New Zealand strong wool. If you ever have a question or feedback, you’re always welcome to email me directly at atsophie@lof.nz.

Awards & Recognition

Our value chain is based in the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand, following a place-based textile model known as a fibreshed. We source wool directly from the farm and process it as locally as possible. Every stage of design and production is guided by a humanity-centred approach that considers both environmental and social impact — ensuring each piece supports the wellbeing of people and Papatūānuku.
